Macbeth writing assignment

1.Quote:
Lady Macbeth
unsex me here,
and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full,
of dirtest cruelty.  Make thick my blood.
Stop up th' access and passage to remorse,
(Act 1, scene 5, line 48-51)

Context and Paraphrase: Lady Macbeth wants to be turned into a man and filled with cruelty.  Then she wants her blood thickened so she doesn't feel any pain for what she does.
Interpretation and Explanation:  In this passage Shakespear shows how men are maid.  He shows that men are full of wrong doing.  And when they do these cruel things they never feel guilt for what they do.  But instead just keep on doing the things because they believe the are doing nothing wrong.

2.Quote:
Macduff to Malcom
    Fit to govern?
No, not to live.—O nation miserable,
With an untitled tyrant bloody-sceptered,
When shalt thou see thy wholesome days again,
Since that the truest issue of thy throne
By his own interdiction stands accursed,
And does blaspheme his breed?—Thy royal father
Was a most sainted king. The queen that bore thee,
Oftener upon her knees than on her feet,
Died every day she lived. Fare thee well!
These evils thou repeat’st upon thyself
Have banished me from Scotland.—O my breast,
Thy hope ends here!
(act 4, scene 3, lines 120-132)

Context and paraphrase: Macduff has just been told by Malcom he doesn't want to be king. Even though Macduff wants him to be and tells him he should be king since he is the prince.  So Macduff gets angry and tells him he isn't fit to be king and should die.  He also tells Malcom he is going to have to leave beautiful Scotland because he can't live with Macbeth being King.
Interpretation and Explanation:   In this quote Shakespear shows that men do truly have feelings.  When Macduff starts yelling at Malcom about being king his passion in Scotland comes out.  It shows that when men get into something they truly feel for the can get passionate about it.  Also, it shows that a man gets passionate about something they don't give up without a fight.

3.Quote:
Malcom to Macduff
     Macduff, this noble passion,
Child of integrity, hath from my soul
Wiped the black scruples, reconciled my thoughts
To thy good truth and honor. Devilish Macbeth
By many of these trains hath sought to win me
Into his power, and modest wisdom plucks me
From overcredulous haste. But God above
Deal between thee and me, for even now
I put myself to thy direction and
Unspeak mine own detraction, here abjure
The taints and blames I laid upon myself,
For strangers to my nature. I am yet
Unknown to woman, never was forsworn,
Scarcely have coveted what was mine own,
At no time broke my faith, would not betray
The devil to his fellow, and delight
No less in truth than life. My first false speaking
Was this upon myself. What I am truly,
Is thine and my poor country’s to command.
(act 4, scene 3, lines 133-151)

Context and Paraphrase: When Malcom sees the passionet outburst from Macduff he realizes he is for real.  He tells Macduff everything that he previously told him was a lie.  He is truly a good person and has never done anything bad.  He also tells Macduff he is loyal and proud of Scotland and is ready to put the rule back into good hands.
Interpretation and Explanation: The way Shakespear has written this quote shows that men are smart and think things through.  Malcom lies to Macduff becuase he thinks Macbeth might of sent him to kill Malcom.  So Malcom makes it up to try to trick Macduff.  But when Macduff gets angry Malcom realizes he is truly there for the good of Scotland.  So Malcom then tells him the truth about how good he is and how he is ready to take over Scotland and put it in good hands again.

4.Quote:
Macbeth to Seyton
    Bring it after me.
I will not be afraid of death and bane,
Till Birnam Forest come to Dunsinane.
(act 5, scene 3, lines 72-74)

Context and Paraphrase: Macbeth tells Seyton to bring the armor and follow him.  He also tells him he will not be afraid of death, but rather focus on moving Birman forest to Dunsinane.
Interpretation and Explanation:  This quote shows that men are fearless and are willing to do anything to get what they want done.  Even if it could involve death, men will work through it and keep focused on the task at hand.

5.Quote:
Macduff
   I have no words.
My voice is in my sword. Thou bloodier villain
Than terms can give thee out!
(act 5, scene 8, lines 7-10)

Context and Paraphrase:  Macduff tells Macbeth he is to evil to talk to, but rather his sword will do all the talking that needs to be spoken in the fight.
Interpretation and Explanation:  The point of this quote is to show that most men are confident in what they can do and think they can control everything, just like what Macduff did when he told Macbeth his sword would do the speaking.  It shows that men don't back down from what needs to be done and go forward thinking they are going to be the one who wins.

Odyssey writing paper

Theme: One main theme that is reoccurring in the OOdyssey, is the lesson of trusting and respecting others exspessially your elders in order to live a life of happiness.

To begin, you must listen and obey the rules people have given you or else you will be punished for your actions.  In book 12 there is a great example of this, it says " The mast itself went crushing into the stern,it struck the helsman's head and crushed his skull to pulp and down from his deck the man flipped like a diver- his hardly life spirit left his bones behind.  Then, then in the same breath Zeus hit the craft with a lighting-bolt and thunder." (pg.284, lines:443-448).  Circe warned Odysseus not to eat the cattle, but because his crew did they were all punished by Zeus and all of them died except for Odysseus.  That is why you should all ways obey to rules you have been told.

My second point that relates to the theme is that you should all ways listen and trust your elders because most of the time they are right.  In book 16 it says "all my life I've heard of your great fame-a brave man in war ans a deep mind in counsel- but what you say dumbfounds me, staggers imagination!  How on earth could two men fight so many and so strong."  (pg.346 lines:271-275).  When Telemachus finally sees his father again, Odysseus wants to make a plan for killing the suitors, but Telemachus thinks he is crazy.  But as you find out later in the story they are successfully able to do it.  That is why you all ways listen to your eleders, because they know what there talking about even if it seems crazy.

My last point is all ways respect the authority for where you live. In book 21it says " So they mocked, but Odysseus mastermind in action, once he had handled to bow and scanned every inch." (pg.437 line:454-454.  The suitors think Odysseus is some loser of a stranger so they would make fun of him and harass him, but went came time to shoot the bow he showed them who he really was and then punished them for what they did.  So even if you don't recognize someone all ways respect them because they could come back and get you.  All three of these points illustrate the theme in the Odyssey of trusting and respecting others to live a happy life.

Are Telemachus and Odysseus Heros?

1. I believe that Telemachus was a hero in the Oddyssey.  He was willing to leave by himself in order to find his father because he believed he was still alive.  According to the Hero's journey this is accepting the challenge and willing to do what ever it takes to accomplish it.  Another, thing that makes Telemachus a hero in books one and two was that he wasn't given a ship easily but he stuck with it and persevered untill he was given a ship.  This is the resfusill to the call because with out a ship he wouldn't be able to travel and find his father so his journey was nearly over before it began.
2. In the Odyssey Odysseeus was not a hero.  First, he was just told he could leave by calypso and didn't have to fight or do anyhting special to get away.  There is nothing in the hero's journey saying your a hero by getting away without a struggle or by doing anything special.  Second, when Odysseus is in the storm another god comes and gives him a magic scarf letting him stay alive and make it to safety.  The hero in this is the god not Odysseus becuase he just sitts there and and waits it out hoping the scarf will save him.  That is why I believe Odysseus is not a hero.

Joe Mauer Article

Joe Mauer is the face of the Minnesota Twins and that is why I believe with the article on Extraordinary Joe.  Joe has to be the king in this postseason for the Twins.  He has to put the team on his shoulders and caring them through the playoffs or at least past the Yankees.  I agree with this because the Twins have a great team and all the pieces put together, they just need somone to step up and lead the team.  Since  Justin Mornue went down in July many players have steeped up but now its time for Joe step up and play his best baseball of the season.  He knows the pressure he is under from his hometown fans who have enjoyed a wonderful season thus far.  Opening Target Field, winning the American Central Division Championship and having home field advantage against the Yankees are just some of the great moments this year for the Twins.  But now its time to show what we can do in the postseason.  We are ridiculed for being under achievers who can make the playoffs and then are three and done.  Which is a fair insumotion since they have lost there last 4 playoff apperances.  But now it is time to show everyone that the Minnesota Twins are for real and that they can compete with the best.  That they are no longer cursed against the Yankees and that they can beat them.  If Mauer is able to have the best three games of his life and carry the Twins I guarantee they win the series, and will no longer be called the team that can't perform in the postseason.

college football playoffs

Lets be honest are you sick of college football because of the rating system?Well I am.  The rating systems are great in the regular system but once you get to the end of the season and bowl season they become awful.  That's why I believe that there should be a playoff for the national championship.  It would also allow us to not woory if are team is rated number one by computers and a select number of people.

It has happened numerous times that the best two teams in college football aren't always playing each other.  The last time was in 2008 when Florida played Oklahoma.  But yet Texas had the same record as Oklahoma and they beat Oklahoma on a neutral field.  Or how about Boise State who is always undefeated and in the top 10, but have never had the opportunity to play for the national championship.  Yeah I know that Boise doesn't play in a very good conference or play very good teams.  But every year they play a couple of good teams and prove that they can beat them too.

That's why I believe we need some kind of playoff system.  Yeah so you might be saying that is way to complicating and that would never work because there are too many teams.  But I have a way that it would.  We can continue to to use the ratings and the bottom of the top 25 and the rest of the teams who qualify for a bowl game can be chosen as they use to, and those teams can play there bowl games as usual.  But the top 16 should be put into a playoff system.  You can use the final weeks top 25 ratings list to determine the seedings.  The number one team would be the team rated number one on the top 25 list and the 16th would be the 16th team on the list.  You would have the number one team play the 16th rated team, the number two team play the 15th rated team and so on.

This would truely tell us who deserves to be in the national championship and who truely is number one in the nation.  It would only add another three games to what the teams usually play. Plus only the national championship teams would play an additional three games.  Most teams would only play and extra one or two games from what they usually play.  And they take a month off anyways between the end off the season and the start of bowl season.  So you could just take two weeks off and then get the playoffs started.  which, would allow them too be over no more than two weeks later than they get over now.    In addition to that, you wouldn't even half to get rid of the big five bowl games, you could just make the last five games the big five bowl games.  So see its just that easy to put a playoff into effect, and it would be good for college football too.

The Barefoot Bandit's Fun

The Barefoot Bandit’s Fun
On one bright and sunny day in Seattle, Washington a boy by the name of Colton Harris-Moore was born.  Colton was born to a mother who was an alcoholic and a father who was a journey man and eventually left when Colt was 2.  Colt grew up in a poor family on a 5 acre ranch with a rundown mobile home for the living quarters.  Colt grew up as a fine young man however as his mother began to become more obsessed with alcohol Colt was forgotten about.  All Colt wanted was what others kids his age had which were cell phones, shoes and food to eat.
Since Colt had none of that he became extremely stressed and couldn’t sleep at night.  Colt was lost on what to do and since the counselor and drugs were not working he turned to theft.  It only started off as a little thing for fun stealing minor little things.  But the more he did it the more obsessed he became with it.  Pretty soon Colt realized he would need a side kick for help and guidance in what he did.  By the age of 14 Colt had found a kid by the name of Harley Davidson who had the same passion as Colt and was willing to help him.  Harley taught Colt how to be sneaky in the forest and in neighborhoods, and how to pick locks.  Pretty soon the duo was on a burglary spree breaking into buildings and stealing cars and boats and getting people’s credit card numbers in order to buy things for themselves.  They were known for stealing cars and filling them with stolen items and dropping them off at Colts house, then filling the car’s gas tanks up, and cleaning the fingerprints of the car and returning it to the owner.  Then one day police arrived at Colts house and discovered all the stolen items in a tent in his backyard.  Colt was taken to a juvenile detention center to serve time for the things he had done.  Soon there after his sidekick Harley Davidson turned himself in knowing Colt had been caught and wasn’t getting out anytime soon.  However, unknown to Harley, Colt hated where he was and planned to escape.
Colt was locked up into the Griffin Home where there were only 30 kids and most of them were there for drugs and alcohol.  Colt was forced to take counseling on drugs and alcohol with the other kids, which he could not stand.  So he decided he was going to try to escape.  He planned out an entire schedule on when and how he was going to escape.  And finally executed his plan on April 19th, 2008 at 8:40 p.m. when he decided to sneak out.  After a successful escape he decided that he wasn’t going back to one of those places easily and that he was going to run and the police would have to catch him.
Colt had a love for airplanes and decided that he wanted to fly.  However, he would not be able to do the conventional way of going to flight school, but instead he would have to teach himself.  Colt read up on books to do with flight and used other people’s credit cards to make up names for online classes and simulations.  Finally, after months of studying he decided it was time to fly.  But in order to do so he would need to steal a plane.  After carefully laying out his options he decided to go to a nearby airport called Orcas Island Airport.  Colt went during the day and hid in the forest around the airport looking for just the right plane to fly.  Then he found his favorite plane, a Cessna 182 and the one he was most comfortable with.  At dusk he snuck into the hanger and found a key for the plane.  He looked over the instruction manual quickly and turned the gas tanks on.  At day break Colt set off going 80mph down the runway until he finally was airborne.  Colt did this several times always remembering to wipe off his finger prints until one day when he crashed a plane in the woods.  He was afraid it was going to go up in flames so he ran, but came back later to clean off his finger prints.
Suddenly Colt became famous for what he was doing and everybody knew about it.  Most people told him,”U the man, keep it up” and “I can’t believe what you are doing”.  Zack Sestak was the man who was responsible for getting Colt so famous via a page on Facebook.  People even started making t-shirts with his picture on it.  This is when Colt got the name the Barefoot Bandit.
In order to not get caught Colt fled to the Bahamas in order to extend his chase out longer.  However, the police in the Bahamas were ready for him.  After a chase on land Colt moved the chase to a high speed boat chase on the water.  Eventually the police caught up with him and shot the engines leaving Colt dead in the water.  But Colt pulled out a gun and put it to his head to kill himself saying, “I’m not going back to jail.”  Finally, after talking him out of it they captured Colt and put him in jail while he waited for a trail.  The Barefoot Bandit is no longer on the loose.

Luke Skywalker vs. Doug paragraph

Luke Skywalker and Doug both had similarities and differences in their heoros journeys like they both didn't know what their journeys were going to consist of, but Doug was just a regular human were as Luke had specail powers  .  To begin with Luke Skywalker wanted to become like his dad.  He says "I want to become like my father I want to become a jeteye and have the force."  When he says this he means that he just wants to learn what it is like to have the force and he knows nothing about him becoming a hero one day for destroying Darth Vaters city.  In Blue Diamond there is an example of the call to advanture when Doug goes with Quinn to Las Vegas.  Quinn tells Doug they are giong to Planet Hollywood but when they don't Doug says" I think we missed our turn off for Planet Hollywood, where are we going."  Doug says yes to going because he thought they are going to Planet Hollywood but when they don't he wonders where they are going and regrets saying yes to go with Quinn.  Finally, in both StarWars and Blue Diamond  there was a near death of the hero.  In Star Wars Luke nearlly dies when he is getting shot at by Darth Vater well he is trying desroy Darth's city.  He says "I am almost there I can do this." and he thinks back to what his friends have told him.  In Blue Diamond Doug sees these guys trying to sell the diamond and he says "let me see that diamond...how much do you want for this."  In both of these examples the guys knew they could die but if they didn't do what they did somebody else could hurt from it and someone else could die.
